Good evening, this is Rich Shepler, principal of Warren Central High School.
It was announced this week that based on the guidance provided on Thursday by the Marion County Public Health Department and the challenges presented due to COVID-19, all MSD Warren Township schools will begin VIRTUAL instruction on Monday, November 23, 2020. Our students will remain VIRTUAL until Friday, January 15th with a tentative return to our current models on Tuesday, January 19th.
Students on a fully virtual schedule and teachers administering fully virtual instruction will continue to do so as previously outlined. There will be no changes to format or expectations.
Students on a hybrid black or gold day schedule will engage in synchronous learning on their assigned days. Students should report to each scheduled class on time via Zoom. Teachers will take attendance of virtual attendees and enter attendance each period. Teachers will provide no less than 20 minutes of direct instruction to synchronous hybrid students each period. Once the instruction is complete, teachers may assign curriculum related tasks or break out into small groups. Teachers and students should remain logged into the synchronous Zoom for the duration of the class period. Teachers will record all synchronous zoom sessions and upload them into Canvas studio for viewing.
On application days, students will log into Canvas and take their own attendance as well as complete assignments for each course as they have done previously. Teachers will post application day materials to Canvas using the current template.
In order for teachers to properly prepare for virtual learning, Monday, November 23rd, and Tuesday, November 24th will be designated eLearning days. These days will be different from virtual learning that will begin on Monday, November 30th. On these days students will log into Canvas and complete independent curriculum related activities posted on Canvas. Teachers will be available to answer questions from 11:30 am - 2:30 pm.
High school teachers will spend this week communicating these expectations with students and will send home any curricular materials needed for virtual learning. Please note: students in specialized programs such as Lifeskills and Walker Career Center certification courses will get specific instructions on how their programming will be handled.
This past Friday our Gold Day students brought a letter home to request a mobile wifi hotspot. Our Black Day students will bring this letter home on Monday, November 16th. Please fill out this form in its entirety and have your child return it to their cohort office, or you may access the Hotspot Link on our website or current newsletter for the QR code if you are in need of a hotspot for virtual learning.
Senior ISTEP retesters will continue testing on Monday, November 16th. All seniors should check their email for their testing dates and locations. All testers should report directly to their testing site at 7:15 am on the assigned days. Please remember to bring your fully charged Chromebook and charger to testing each day. This is a graduation qualifying exam and attendance is required.
As always, please check your email, the Warren Township app, and social media for continued updates.
Thank you so much for your time and have a great evening.
