Presidential elections aren’t the only elections that matter, as local elections also have a huge impact on one’s community.

The school board of the Metropolitan School District of Warren Township is also holding elections in November, and these are the people who will be making decisions that affect policies and changes in the Warren schools.

Current active members of the board are LaShauna Triplett, Rachel Burke, Terri Amos, Howard Dorsey Jr, Julie French, Kevin Humphrey and Gloria Williams.

There are four seats open in the upcoming Nov. 5 election, belonging to Triplett, Dorsey Jr., French and Williams. All four are running again, in addition to a new candidate who could potentially shake things up, Candace Hopkins.

Local elections for school board members are important because they affect students and teachers in Warren Township and parents who have children in the township.

“I think the local elections have more of an effect on you than the actual nationwide elections,” math teacher David Nicholas said. “Knowing what’s going on in your township matters, and knowing who’s in charge of your township matters.”
