With the season under wraps, seniors begin to say their final goodbyes and think about how they will be remembered. With a senior-strong varsity group, the Warren Central girls lacrosse team is reflecting on their season and what they have accomplished.
As some of the seniors look back on playing, senior Hazel Miller recognizes how tough being a student-athlete is, and she is feeling bittersweet about graduating and having to leave her team behind.
“Being a student-athlete is like a full-time job, but it is also so rewarding when you can see your results on and off the field,” Miller said. “Being in this sport has pushed me to become the best version of myself in my classes and for my team. Graduating is heartbreaking because it means I’ll have to leave these amazing girls, but it's exciting because I'm ready to go to the next level and possibly play more and make more memories.”
Junior D'Aysia Jackson is getting prepared to step up and be a leader of her team next year. Jackson knows that this is a different role from just being on the team to being someone her teammates can look up to and ask for advice, and she's ready for it. She has played lacrosse since she was younger.
“I'm excited to take on the leadership role next year,” she said.. “I've been playing since fourth grade since my sister played, and it feels good to be able to be that role model for others because I know how it feels to have people help and be encouraging when you need it.”
Senior Dream Hood recognizes that not only did lacrosse teach her how to work together with others, but it also taught her valuable lessons that she will carry with her throughout her life.
“Lacrosse has taught me things like the importance of treating others the way you want to be treated,” Hood said.
As the seniors bid farewell to lacrosse, their teammates are looking forward to their new season. With hopes of victory, they will be practicing hard and preparing for games to come.
