Prom 2024 provided a bright and colorful night on the dance floor with vibrant flashing lights throughout the night. This year's prom took place at the Indiana Roof Ballroom on the sixth floor in downtown Indianapolis on April 27.
This year's prom queen and king were seniors Jaya Fontanella and Damien Keys.
Fontanella feels amazed that she was elected as royalty and feels as if it was something big to experience and full of emotion.
“Winning prom queen has been one of my highlights of my senior year when I won it,” Fontanella said.
Along with Fontanella, Keys won prom king, although it wasn’t as huge of a highlight of his high school experience.
“It feels good,” Keys said. “I mean it really didn’t mean the world to me or anything like that. It was like, I kind of did this as a little bit of a joke with Jila who was also on prom court.”
Prom wouldn’t be possible without Student Council. They have been planning prom since the beginning of the year and organized the event to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone attending this year. Student Council leaders felt as if the prom went according to plan.
“I feel like it was a really good success, definitely a blowout, and I think I could say [or] maybe I’m just going off on a limb here, I think everyone else also enjoyed prom,” Student Council President Chanasia Brown said.
There were a lot of moments with very high energy making the night an overall enjoyable experience.
“I wouldn’t really change anything about prom,” Keys said. “Prom was really enjoyable. There [were] a lot of people there, and the music choice was great. [While] I didn’t try the food, I heard the food was good, and it seemed like everyone enjoyed themselves at least in their own ways, and I love to see that.”
Prom was undoubtedly a pleasant experience and was a good opportunity for people to show up and show out.
“I love prom, I love dressing up, I love being cute, I love having my hair done, nails done, makeup done and with a very pretty dress,” Fontanella said.
Meanwhile, Student Council expects that next year's prom will be even bigger and better than this year’s prom.
“The thing [is] when you do something that’s constantly repetitive, that you either want it to always be the same or you want it to be better,” Brown said.
