Boys golf team with Coach Crumlin

The boys golf team is well into their season, with tournaments on the horizon. Coach Stephen Crumlin, the head coach for boys golf, is proud of how the season has shaped up so far.

“I would say that we have met our expectations, as we have high hopes to finish first or second,” Crumlin said. “I think one of the contributors to our success has been the attitude of the team. Their attitude has led to them wanting to become better and improving at a fast pace.”

Junior Connor Lee and sophomore Noah Hess have both improved during the season in many different ways.

“I feel as though each part of my golf game has marginally improved with each coming match,” Lee said.

Hess has improved mentally while on the course, which he believes is just as important.

“I have become more consistent at holes, while also getting better at keeping my head in the game after a bad hole,” Hess said.

The personal and group goals that were created before the season have been lived up to, but the team is not ready to stop at that.

“I feel as though the expectations that we set for ourselves, we have met but we still have a long way to go,” Lee said.

Still, the team is satisfied with how far they have come from where they started. If they can continue to meet their goals, they believe that success will come their way.

“I think we have met our overall expectations as a team,” Hess said. “One of these expectations is steadily improving, which I believe we all have done.”

Sectionals are coming up at the end of May at the golf team’s normal Maple Creek course, and Coach Crumlin detailed how the team prepares for them.

“We have played at Maple a multitude of times,” he said. “It is a familiar course so it is about simulating the different circumstances that may happen on that day.”

Lee, Hess and the rest of their teammates are on their journey to prepare for sectionals. They know what needs to be done, and they just have to execute.

“I think a big part of winning sectionals is winning the mind game so [I] have been working on my mentality,” Lee said. “I am preparing by using every match and practice as a lesson so that I play better at sectionals.”
