Warren celebrates its 100th Senior Prom Night

Dry clean your tuxedos, prep those makeup kits, and practice your tango, because Warren Central is about to get down on the dance floor. On Saturday, April 27, Warren Central’s student council will host this year’s Prom for the 100th year.

To get down on the dance floor and gain perhaps one of the most wonderful memories of being an upperclassman in high school, though, Warriors will need to be mindful of not only their behaviors in school but also their attendance record.

Any student wishing to attend Prom cannot have more than 10 absences and tardies starting Monday, Feb. 5. If they do, they will be barred from attending the event, so students need to make sure their attendance is in tip-top shape if they want to get in.

“I think on the positive side, students are going to make a greater effort to come to school and get to class on time,” English teacher Elizabeth Alezetes said. “This is a very good thing because research shows that school performance is closely tied to attendance.”

Not everyone is in favor of this policy, though.

“Honestly I think it’s a little overbearing and three strikes is excessive, but I see why they created the policy because there has always been an issue with people being tardy,” senior Gizzelle Harris said.

Attendance is not the only thing students are worried about concerning the big dance. According to Student Council President Chanasia Brown, how well the student body likes Prom this year will affect other things for the club.

“First, their impression of Student Council because if it's not to the liking of quite a few of our student body, then it will fall back on us as Student Council to really be blamed for it not meeting their standards,” she said. “Secondly, it could also impact their involvement in the event altogether, because in the same way that you wouldn't go to a party that doesn't seem like it's your scenery is the same way the student body might look at Prom. And lastly, this would also set up an impression for future officers, because, during my senior year, I will be unable to be president and have a final call for Prom so if we don't do well for Prom it can really impact that term of officer's delivery for Prom. So there really is a lot to consider as far as future tense and outcome of Prom for the student body.”

The dance will be hosted at the Indiana Roof Ballroom, which is at 140 W Washington St. Tickets for this event are being sold on April 9 through April 18 in the East Cafeteria, at the price of $60 per person with dinner included.

“So far, we are still deciding what theme we’d like to go with,” Brown said. “So you’ll just have to stay tuned and hopefully enjoy the surprise.”

Since the theme and all the night entails remains a complete mystery, those members of Warrior Nation who want to come to see it need to make sure their attendance is in good shape. That way, they can enjoy the time of their lives and dance to a new year.
