As many would know, Saint Patrick’s Day is merely 16 days away, starting on March 17, 2024. St. Patrick’s Day is a cultural and religious holiday that celebrates the death date of Saint Patrick, Ireland’s foremost patron saint. Throughout this day, celebrations typically consist of public parades, festivals, wearing green or “shamrocks,” and sometimes even céilithe, which is a traditional Scottish or Irish social gathering. However, there are numerous different events in Indianapolis that people can attend during this holiday to celebrate.
- St. Patrick’s Day Parade
On Saturday, March 11, gather your friends and family and join the civilians of Indianapolis in the watching of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. It’s to be hosted on North Street between Meridian and Pennsylvania in the downtown area, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Shamrock Run and Walk
On Saturday, March 16, tie up your running shoes, because it’s time to partake in Indiana’s longest and oldest running tradition for St. Patrick’s Day. The Shamrock Run and Walk is a 5K hosted by the Indianapolis Athletic Club Foundation and the Indianapolis Fire Department Emerald Society that will take participants through historic neighborhoods. The starting line is located at the Indianapolis Fire Museum and the Fallen Firefighters Memorial, and the finish line is located at the Bottle Works District, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Golden Ace Block Party
On Friday, March 17, finish up the holy weekend with a Block Party at the Golden Ace. This three-day long block party has everything one could want in such a party, including food, drinks, and live performances from Irish bands. Admission is $10 and patrons must be 21 or older to enter, with the event being hosted at McGinleys’ Golden Ace Inn and starting at 10:30 a.m. each day.
