New movie brings back iconic character

A new killer has emerged from the shadows. “Scream 6” is the newest movie to the scream series and shows “Ghostface” now moving away from suburbia to make their killings in the Big Apple.

The film begins one year after the 2022 film “Scream” - showing Blackmore University student John Carvey killing his catfished film professor outside a bar in New York City while wearing a Ghostface costume. He then plots with his roommate and boyfriend Greg Bruckner to kill Sam and Tara Carpenter, survivors of the 2022 killings and estranged sisters, in order to finish the previous Ghostface’s sinister plans. However, those plans would swiftly be foiled before they could even begin - as both the university student and his roommate were murdered by a new Ghostface. Meanwhile, Sam and Tara adjust to their new lives in New York, living alongside fellow survivors and roommates Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin, Quinn Bailey, Anika Kayoko and Ethan Bailey - all of whom attend Blackmore University. Quinn's father, Detective Wayne Bailey, calls Sam in for questioning as her ID was found at the scene of Jason's murder, along with the Ghostface mask used by Richie and Amber - the previous Ghostface killers. On the way to the station, Sam is called by Ghostface from Richie's phone, who then attacks Tara and pursues them into a bodega, killing multiple bystanders, and leaving another Ghostface mask used in the 2011 Woodsboro killings. Once at the station, the sisters meet up with FBI agent Kirby Reed - while Ghostface reappears and attacks the group in Sam and Tara's apartment, killing Quinn and Anika before leaving the mask used in the Windsor College attacks of 1977. Wayne, upon receiving news of Quinn’s death, is officially taken off the case but vows to help the group and avenge his daughter. The group then goes to an abandoned cinema, with help from reporter Gale Weathers, which was set up to be a shrine to every Ghostface killer - before they are all ambushed by the newest additions. The group is then split up, before they kill every Ghostface killer - ending the film with the disposal of Billy Loomis’ mask from 1996.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, alongside his partner Tyler Gilbert, directed this new film - and did  a great job on it. The duo met after Matt formed “Radio Silence” with Tyler, Justin Martinez and  Chad Villella - who all then co-directed the “10/31/98” segment in the feature film “V/H/S.” After that, the group then directed and produced six more movies throughout the years, said films being “Devil’s Due,” “Southbound,” “Ready or Not,” and “V/H/S/94” - with their latest developments being the fifth and sixth installments of the “Scream” franchise.

Melissa Barrera is an Mexican actress and singer - known both in and out of Mexico for her performances in “Siempre tuya Acapulco,” “Tanto Amor,” “Club De Cuervos” and “Vida.” Jenna Ortega is an American actress - well known for her child acting career as a young Jane in “Jane the Virgin,” before showing up in other films and movies later on down the line, such as “Iron Man 3,” “Insidious: Chapter 2,” “Rob” and “Wednesday.” Dermot Mulroney is an American actor - known for his involvement in romantic comedy, western and drama films. He’s acted in a multitude of movies and televisions, such as “Young Guns,” “Abduction,” “Mozart in the Jungle” and “Messiah.”

All and all, “Scream 6” is an excellent movie for those that enjoy the thrill of wondering who is underneath the mask. The movie has already been released to the public on March 10, but viewers can watch the sixth installment to one of the most recognizable horror flicks in AMC Theaters, Living Room Theaters, Landmark’s Glendale Theaters and Regal UA Galaxy.
