“Tom and Jerry” was a famous cartoon about a cat and mouse that would always get into trouble all the time. This famous duo started in the 1940s and ended in 1972. They are back in their own live-action movie, with the same slapstick comedy.

At the beginning of the trailer, Tom gets kicked out of his home, along with his longtime rival, Jerry. Now homeless, the two rivals have to call a truce and go their separate ways, starting their lives fresh. The two later cross paths in Manhattan, NYC where Jerry has taken up residence in the city's largest hotel. While he was there he caused all sorts of trouble while the staff is preparing for the "wedding of the century."

Then viewers meet Kayla (Chloë Grace Moretz),  a young girl who gets a job at the same hotel that Jerry is at, and her first job is to get rid of a mouse problem. Little does she know the mouse that she has to get rid of is Jerry. She tries to get rid of him herself but has no luck. Kayla later finds Tom and hires him to catch Jerry, reigniting their never-ending fight. However, chaos unfolds when the cat-and-mouse slapstick battle threatens to destroy Kayla's reputation, the wedding, and possibly even the hotel itself as the chase causes widespread mayhem. But soon, an even bigger problem arises as the three may have to put their differences aside when they uncover a diabolical conspiracy that involves the deputy hotel manager Terrence (Michael Peña).

This movie was originally intended as a live-action/computer-animated film in 2009, The film remained in an idea and development for nearly a decade. They got the idea that the film should just be all animated. The film again became a live-action/animated hybrid, using the shorts as inspiration, in 2018, with filming beginning in 2019. It is the first theatrically released Tom and Jerry production since 2005's “The Karate Guard”. The plans for a live-action Tom and Jerry film were announced in 2009 following the success of Alvin and the Chipmunks.

In March 2019, it was reported that Zoey Deutch and Olivia Cooke were frontrunners for the lead live-action role of Kayla. The Principal photography began in July 2019 at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden in Hertfordshire, England. Animators were present during filming, allowing cast members to improvise. Filming ended before the industry's shutdown in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
